I love the Terminator movies. The real ones, not the parody ones. The Terminator, Terminator: Judgement Day, and Terminator: Dark Fate. That's the real trilogy.
I saw an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger where he said that he called James Cameron after being asked to play in Terminator 3. He said he felt that the script was sub par and he didn't want to disappoint Cameron. James had laughed and said "take the money and run".
That says something about the quality of the story. Christian Bale saved Terminator 4, but it didn't feel like a real part of the franchise. Post-apocalypse, not prevention. The fifth one was a rime-travelling story, not a Terminator story.
Dark Fate returns to the roots. You can argue that the story was complete after Judgement Day; the apocalypse prevented in the end. That one posed questions about humanity, sacrifice, and hope. Dark Fate is not a necessary addition, but it is a good one. It sits just right in our current zeitgeist. It presents us with thoughts about humanity, unity, and atonement and forgiveness.
And also all the movies in the trilogy are great action movies.
EDIT: It seems I wrote about this already, back in 2022 😂
