Shadow and Bone

After avoiding it for a long time (mostly because I already had other things to watch and do) I've now started watching the fantasy series Shadow and Bone on Netflix.

I've only seen a few episodes in, but I very much like it. Obviously inspired by Russia, sometime early 20th century. With magic! And a great big black something in the middle of the world, which poses a great threat to all who try to cross.

It's familiar the way most fantasy is, but there's also a lot of fresh takes in the world building. And a wonderfully diverse cast of characters. I'm looking forward to where the series goes in later episodes, and hoping that it doesn't fall into cliches.

And Now For Something Completely Different

I challenged thewetcrab on IRC to pick a topic for me to write about, and they picked "self-hosting for non-technical people". I really love the topic, and helping others out with technical guidance is something I enjoy. It's possibly a gigantic topic, however. I'm going to ponder it a little bit to decide where to start and how deep to go, and it's possible that it will become a series of posts set apart from my ordinary gemlog and blog. We'll see. I've only just begun looking at it.
